Role Overview

The Payments Director will lead Daraz Nepal’s payments strategy with a focus on making the prepayment journey frictionless, expanding prepayment adoption, and growing the share of prepaid transactions. This role requires a visionary leader who can build strong partnerships, drive innovation in payment solutions, and foster collaboration across the Daraz and Alibaba ecosystem to create a seamless and trusted customer payment experience.'

 

Key Responsibilities

1. Prepayment Strategy & Growth

  • Design and implement strategies to increase customer prepayment adoption and overall prepayment share.
  • Ensure the customer prepayment journey is simple, frictionless, and accessible across all Daraz touchpoints.

2. Payment Innovation & Integration

  • Drive the adoption of new payment methods, including digital wallets, card payments, and emerging financial technologies.
  • Lead end-to-end integration of new payment solutions in alignment with global best practices and local market needs.

3. Ecosystem Development & Partnerships

  • Establish and maintain SOPs and best practices for payment processes, both internally and with external partners.
  • Collaborate with banks, digital wallet providers, and regulators to strengthen Nepal’s payment ecosystem.
  • Leverage Alibaba Group’s expertise to accelerate innovation and prepayment adoption.

4. Campaigns & Customer Engagement

  • Partner with marketing teams to design and execute campaigns that promote prepaid transactions.
  • Initiate customer-centric promotional activities in collaboration with payment partners.

5. Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Work closely with marketing, finance, operations, and technology teams to deliver on payment objectives.
  • Collaborate with senior management at Daraz Nepal and the wider Alibaba network to align local execution with regional and global strategy.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Management, Finance, Economics, or related discipline (Master’s degree preferred).
  • 5+ years of proven experience in payments, banking, fintech, or e-commerce, with strong exposure to digital payment systems.
  • Solid track record in sales, marketing, or business development with an emphasis on partnership management.
  • Strong understanding of Nepal’s banking and payment ecosystem and ability to influence stakeholders.
  • Analytical thinker with proven expertise in data-driven decision-making, forecasting, and reporting.
  • Excellent communication and relationship management skills to engage effectively with internal teams and external partners.
